Give them a list!

Grocery shopping with kids is always a treat.  Ever turned to find cans of herring, spicy horseradish, cupcakes, or colorful cookies in your cart?

A friend of mine told me that giving her son his own list of foods to find while shopping keeps him engaged.  Mom makes two lists - text for her and pictures for her son.  You can draw pictures for your own list if that's fun for you too.

A child's behavior is much better when he/she has something fun to do.

Believe it or not, searching for certain items among many teaches attention to detail, matching, memory, etc.  These are important skills for editing, organizing, and reading.

Not only that, your child will learn to follow directions, make healthier choices (depending on the list), and life skills.
